Fritz Koenig

The Sphere-
A Very Large metallic sculpture sculpted by the German artist Fritz Koenig. It first stood in the middle of Austin Tobin Plaza, The area between the World Trade Center in Manhattan. It was dug out from the rubble under the Twin Towers after the deadly 9-11 attack and moved to its new home to this day in Battery Park. The fate of "The Sphere" was initially uncertain until it was dismantled down to its components and it seemed structurally intact. It was then moved to Battery Park without any repairs and dedicated with an eternal flame as  memory of the lives lost on 9-11, it has become a very large tourist attraction because of the dents and holes from the airplane and falling buildings.
